Clinical Studies II
Study 2
Objective: To study the effect of gum guggul on the serum
fibrinolytic activity (FA) and platelet adhesive index (PAI).
Methods: Healthy subjects (20)
and patients of coronary heart disease were divided into control and treated subgroups.
The treated groups received a gum guggul fraction of 0.5 g twice daily in a gelatin
capsule for 30 days. Withdrawn blood samples were analyzed for fibrinolytic activity and
platelet adhesive index.
Results:
Figure 22
Effect of gum guggul on the fibrinolytic activity of healthy
subjects.
Figure 23

patients.

patients.
Conclusions::The gum guggul fraction reduced platelet adhesiveness and increased the blood’s fibrinolytic activity (i.e. fibrin-breaking activity), two actions that are extremely beneficial in protecting against heart attack and stroke (thrombosis). The activity persisted as long as the gum guggul was taken.
